Welcome to the Robins.

Welcome to the Robins’ Class Page. We are a class of 7 children in Year 1, 2 and 3 who work with Mrs Lewis, Miss Chalmers and Miss Whitehouse.

Reading at Home

In our classroom, we have a lovely reading area which the children have helped to create with art work. Every day we have story time and children read individually. We have a class book as part of our Big Read. The Robins should read at home at least 3 times per week. Children will make more progress the more times they read so this will really help them to improve.

Homework for the Robins is reading. Please read with your child at least 3 times per week. They will have a reading book and a library book. If your child is part of the Read, Write Inc group then they will also have a ditty book to read.

The Robins class will do PE on Tuesday afternoons with Mr Brookes. Please send in PE kit (black shorts, white t-shirt and Velcro pumps) in a drawstring PE bag. These will be left in school for the half term then returned to you for washing. Please ensure that every piece of clothing is labelled.

Snacks and Water Bottles

Water is provided in school at snack time and whenever required. Please send a piece of healthy snack in for your child to eat. We also have fruit which the children are able to have at the end of the day.

Phonics (KS1 only)

Phonics is the teaching of sounds in order to learn to read and write.

Children are grouped according to their reading ability for phonics in order to ensure that they are learning exactly what they need and make the best possible progress. We learn sounds along with Fred the Frog and these are built into words for reading and writing. Words become sentences and sentences become stories. A wide world of possibilities is opened up for your child.

The children are learning at different levels so your child may be….

….counting to 20 and beyond. All children need to count, read, write and make numbers to 20. We will be ensuring that all children can add and subtract numbers within 10 and beyond. Know 1 more and 1 less to 10 and doubles up to 5. We will also be focussing on number formation or ….

….. Numbers to 100, Addition and Subtraction, Money and Multiplication and Division.
