Welcome to year 5/6

Welcome to Year 5/6’s page

Once again it’s been a VERY busy half term in Year 5/6! In our topic lessons, we have been learning all about natural disasters and have written some excellent newspaper reports about earthquakes. Maths lessons have focused on fractions, which we are all now experts on! The children have continued to enjoy their sessions with the Manchester United Foundation and some have taken part in the Manchester United after school reading club. Many children have developed a love of David Walliam’s books since our class reader ‘Ratburger’; it has been great to see so many children borrowing some of his other books from Irlam Library.  We have started Pixl sessions too this half term which have been a success, as we head towards getting the children ready for their SAT’s in May. The children should all now have brought home their revision guides to work in for homework. Home access to Education City is now available to all children to support their learning at home. The children have their own logins and know how to access any homework we set.

After the February half term, our new topic will be The Victorians. We will be learning about who they were and what they have taught us. We will also be getting busy with batteries, bulbs, buzzers and switches in Science, as we learn about electricity.

We have been delighted with spelling and times table scores, as well as the number of children really putting lots of effort into their home reading. Your continued support with this is invaluable and greatly appreciated.

As ever, if you have any concerns or want to chat about your child, our door is always open.

Mrs Hughes, Mrs Johnson and Mrs Cox
